2002

In early 2002, an Action Plan was drawn up showing how each finding of the Appraisal could be dealt with. Issues that needed further thought and consultation were discussed with a variety of local organisations to ensure that they were in agreement with what was being proposed. Consulted groups included North Devon Primary Care Trust and local GPs, Citizens Advice Bureau, local clergy and Church Councils, the governing body of the Primary School and Adult Education staff at Chulmleigh Community College.

A Community Planning Day (July 2002) brought together a range of professionals whose input was needed to ensure that the emerging plans were realistic and achievable.

Proposals were worked up into a draft Parish Plan for the period 2003 – 2023. Phase 1 dealt with Little Bickington Farm, Phase 2 with the village centre and Phase 3 with the North Road area. The Parish Plan dealt with:

  1. Current facilities
  2. Context – architecture, history, land use and wildlife
  3. Environmental management
  4. Community development
  5. Future/Implementation

In November 2002, the draft Plan was exhibited and consulted on at a two day Parish Planning and Consultation weekend in the village. 250 people attended and many recorded their views.
