Community Property Trust The Annual General Meeting held on 7th July at Little Bickington Farm attracted 40 shareholders and 9 other residents. Thanks are due to Alan and Marcia Smale for providing the barbecue and to Doug Chapman of the Old George for running the bar. The CPT, having agreed a Farm Business Tenancy of Little Bickington with the County Council, have sub-let the farmhouse, some of the barns and the land. It should be noted therefore that there is no public access to or through the farmyard other than for organised events.
Community Woodland
Members of the Small Woodland Association visited on Sunday 10th July and passed favourable comments on the establishment of the trees. They were impressed by the elaborate Little Owl boxes put up in the trees but questioned whether they were "affordable" nest boxes! Owls have been seen around the buildings but seem reluctant to move into their new homes. Butterflies have at last appeared in some numbers, with red admiral, small tortoiseshell, ringlet, speckled wood and meadow brown all recorded. The plant list continues to grow, with three species of vetch and honeysuckle now in flower in the hedges. Most of these animals and plants were of course there before the planting of the woodland. The difference is that they can now be enjoyed, along with the views, from within the field. It will be interesting to see how nature adapts to the changing environment as the wood grows.
Education and Community Facilities
A further meeting has been held on the design and funding of this part of the proposed development. Any modifications in the layout of these and other aspects of the project will be incorporated into the Master Plan in preparation for the forthcoming Public Inquiry.
Housing
The CPT's leaflet on affordable housing was launched at the AGM. Copies have been sent to all who have expressed an interest in housing and can also be made available to anyone else - please ask.
Renewable Energy and Sustainability
These important features of the proposals will be investigated in more depth this autumn so that the costs and other implications can be included within the developing plans.
Sport and Recreation
At the time of writing we have not heard whether Sport England will agree to work with us to develop a full application for funding this aspect of the development.
Finally, a reminder that anyone with any questions, comments etc about the Little Bickington Farm proposals can contact the Project Coordinator/ Administrator or any of the Directors of the CPT via the project office: High Bickington CPT Ltd, The Meeting Point, North Road, High Bickington
