Annual General Meeting
The AGM will be held on Thursday 7th July at 7.30pm at Little Bickington Farm (not at Umberleigh Village Hall as previously announced). We hope for a fine evening and intend to follow the meeting with a barbecue and liquid refreshments for which payment will be required. If the weather is too wet or windy for meeting in an open-ended barn we will adjourn to the Church Hall.
The Annual General Meeting is open for anyone to attend but any voting that might be required will, of course, be limited to shareholders of the CPT.
Please walk to the farm if you possibly can as there is not much space for parking in the farmyard.
Tenancy of Little Bickington Farm
Following lengthy negotiations with Devon County Council the CPT has now taken on a short term 'Farm Business Tenancy' of Little Bickington Farm and from 20th June became responsible for the Farmhouse, Farm Buildings and some 20 acres of land. This is currently a temporary arrangement, until next March, to ensure that the farmhouse and buildings are put to productive use until the outcome of the Local Planning Inquiry is known. Stan Parker has agreed to farm the spare land and, at the time of writing, we are negotiating the short-term occupation of the house and use of a barn with a prospective Tenant.
Community Woodland
Among the flowers that have appeared since the last report in April are cow parsley, jack-by-the-hedge, foxglove, goosegrass, hedge bedstraw, herb bennett, herb robert, wall pennywort, honeysuckle and chickweed. (Nettles, thistles and docks are plentiful in the field too!) There are several types of grass in flower - does anyone out there know how to tell them apart? Newly arrived birds include swift, house martin, skylark and wren. Wall brown and speckled wood butterflies have also been seen.
The field has recently been mown, so the growing trees are visible again.
Sport and Recreation
An "expression of interest" has been submitted to Sport England.
The first step towards applying for funding for this aspect of the Project.
