March News Update

Community Property Trust
Membership of the CPT now stands at 144 with a further 8 applications pending.
There may be a delay in the determination of the outline planning application but the work of the Trust goes on. Over the coming months we intend to produce progress reports on different aspects of the project. The first of these will be an explanation of the way in which we propose to develop the affordable housing, with examples of the different purchase and rental options.

Community Woodland
Following completion of tree planting the main focus has been on setting up training courses and preparing a management plan. Although some of the maintenance will be contracted out, we aim to undertake much of it ourselves. The equipment is about to be purchased, so that by the start of the growing season we should be fully prepared to tackle the advancing weeds!

A maintenance day has been arranged for Saturday 19th March. All volunteers welcomed - please come to the top corner of the woodland field anytime after 9.30am.

On Friday 25th February, we hosted a visitation from a Government VIP on behalf of South West Forest (whose officers have advised us on the planning of our woodland). DEFRA's Sandy Shattock, Head of Forestry Policy, looked at the Community Woodland as an example of South West Forest's involvement in rural regeneration and their delivery of the Woodland Trust's 'Tree for All' campaign.

Education and Community Facilities
The third in the series of workshops discussing and preparing a brief for the new school and community facilities is to be held later this month. This will help the architects to design the buildings in such a way that they can be shared as much as possible by the different users.

Finally, a reminder that anyone with any questions, comments etc about the proposals for Little Bickington Farm can contact the Project Coordinator/Administrator or any of the Directors of the CPT via the project office - see contact details below.
